An example to follow. . .

"I would like to say something . . . to the men who were in Vietnam who I hurt, or whose pain I caused to deepen because of things that I said or did. I was trying to help end the killing and the war, but there were times when I was thoughtless and careless about it. . . . I want to apologize to them and their families." Jane Fonda (1988)

When is the esteemed Mr. Kerry going to follow Ms. Fonda's lead?

If all Kerry had done was talk to Congress about his beliefs he should not appologize. If, however, in talking to congress he accused his fellow soldiers of war crimes of which they were not guilty, or if he travelled to Paris and talked with representatives of North Vietnam (clearly against the law) as a private citizen. . .then he should do more than appologize.

Here is some of his testimony to congress in 1971:
". . .they had personally raped, cut off ears, cut off heads, taped wires from portable telephones to human genitals and turned up the power, cut off limbs, blown up bodies, randomly shot at civilians, razed villages in fashion reminiscent of Ghengis Khan, shot cattle and dogs for fun, poisoned food stocks, and generally ravaged the countryside of South Vietnam,in addition to the normal ravage of war and the normal and very particular ravaging which is done by the applied bombing power of this country."

A more complete transcript can be found here.

Please keep in mind that while Kerry spoke, there were men still in North Vietnamese prisons, undergoing torture, because they would not say the things that Kerry said. By his statements and his actions he was giving aid and comfort to the enemy.

You are old enough to remember what was happening in the 60's and 70's. My father was in Nam...but his men didn't do the things that Kerry talked about. All dad wanted to do was complete his missions and make it out alive...and get back to his 4 daughters and beautiful wife. He would have never allowed ANYONE to have done the things Kerry is saying. Why didn't Kerry stop it if he knew (or heard) about it then...while he was there? Because publicly bitching about it...is always easier then privately doing something about it.

Envoy-ette, my dad flew in Vietnam. I know he would not have done or condoned the things Kerry talked about. Kerry threw mud on all who served there, and caused pain both figurative and actual to many Vietnam vets. Inexcusable.
